McCarrons Lakefront Alliance was launched in the fall of 2019 by a group of volunteer homeowners on Lake McCarrons who shared the goals of preventing and controlling the spread of invasive species, enhancing and maintaining the lake’s water quality and bridging the gap between government agencies and community stakeholders.

The need for this type of coordinated effort became apparent earlier that year when the lake was hit with unwelcome news on two fronts. First, the public beach was closed for weeks during the summer due to elevated levels of E. coli. Then, just weeks before McCarrons Lakefront Alliance was planning to launch, Ramsey County officials confirmed the discovery of zebra mussels in the lake.

McCarrons Lakefront Alliance began with a focus on these issues and has since taken on other projects that impact the health, quality and recreational capacity of the lake. The group is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that’s run by a five-member board of volunteers.
