McCarrons Lakefront Alliance is working on several projects. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- Zebra Mussel Samplers: McCarrons Lakefront Alliance started its own zebra mussel monitoring program to collect data on the zebra mussels in the lake. Each year the samplers will be removed for counting and placed back in the water for year-round monitoring. The data is being shared with Ramsey County as part of a coordinated effort to monitor zebra mussels in Lake McCarrons from year to year. The data could guide decisions if a treatment for zebra mussels emerges in the future.
- E. coli: The Lakefront Alliance advocated for expanded E. coli monitoring on Lake McCarrons after the prolonged beach closures of 2019. We are talking with the county about options for controlling the geese population going forward.
- Outlet Cleanup: Volunteers are working to keep the outlet near the fishing pier clear of debris, as a clean outlet keeps lake levels low. Contact us through this website if you’d like to join the volunteers!
- Outlet Redesign: The Alliance has opened up discussions with the Capitol Region Watershed District and Ramsey County about possibilities for an outlet redesign, to avoid future clogs.
- Community Outreach: McCarrons Lakefront Alliance is building community relationships and partnering up on projects that are central to our mission of protecting the health, quality, and recreational capacity of Lake McCarrons. Sharing information and being transparent are central to our mission. We created a Facebook page as another way to keep in touch.
